LiveAble: An Evolving Program

LiveAble Program Transition

Our mission at Able Works has always been to: equip individuals with the financial education, life skills, and assets to live free from oppression and poverty. That mission will not change. However, we have developed our mission and organizational structure to serve people, not programs. Because of this, we are shifting our programs to be responsive to the greatest needs of the people and communities we serve and as such are evolving our LiveAble program to connect with our two core programs, FutureProfits and AchieveAble.

After an intensive three-year process to develop a new and more comprehensive continuum of care for our program participants, we believe that we can more effectively transform the lives of marginalized youth and young adults by investing in a focused age group of those moving through the critical transition from high school to college or career. Our programs are now more aligned and connected to support youth through the successful transition to college or career.

As part of this realignment, we will be redesigning the LiveAble program to better fit the needs of the young people who are part of our core target population.  As such, the LiveAble program as it previously was designed has been placed on hold as we reimagine what the program can become and how it can make the biggest impact on the young people we serve.

History of LiveAble

LiveAble for many years was one of our core programs that operated with a goal of bringing economic self-sufficiency to young families while moving them from a sense of just surviving to thriving by building community, fostering stability, and cultivating ability.

Since 2012, we created lasting transformation for young mothers and their children through our cohort-based 9 month holistic economic stability program. By leveraging 1:1 coaching, training and support, participants rose up together towards self-empowerment and success. Over the span of the program, we served over 945 people - more than 270 participants and over 675 children.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, LiveAble also served over 120 past and current participants and their families through the Together We Rise Initiative, which provided holistic support, care management, and access to emergency funding and resources to survive and protect the progress of our youth and young families.

Next Steps

As we transition away from actively delivering our LiveAble program as it was previously designed, Able Works remains deeply committed to collaborating with our community partners who will continue to provide support and services to these women and families.

We strongly believe that the impact of our LiveAble program will continue for years to come. So many of our alumni are thriving and lifting up others in their families and communities. This is the beauty of how we designed the program from the beginning, with the dream of creating a supportive community that fosters under-resourced and immigrant women as local leaders. There is a ripple effect that will endure in these women’s lives, their families’ lives and their communities!  We thank you for being a part of changing the trajectory of many, many families forever.
